Healing with Resins
Ancient Cultural and Spiritual Significance: Throughout history, many different cultures have used resins for religious, spiritual, and ceremonial purposes. They were burned as incense during rituals and believed to carry prayers or messages to the gods or the divine realm. This longstanding cultural and spiritual significance has contributed to the mystique surrounding resin.
Aromatic and sensory appeal: Many resins, such as frankincense, myrrh, and copal, possess captivating and pleasing aromas when burned. The aromatic experience can create a tranquil and uplifting ambiance, enhancing meditation, relaxation, and spiritual practices. The captivating scents of resins can evoke emotions, memories, and a sense of connection to the natural world.
Healing and Purifying Properties: Resins have been attributed medicinal and healing properties in traditional practices, including Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine. They were believed to possess antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and cleansing qualities. Some resins were used to ward off evil spirits, negative energy, or bad luck and to purify spaces or objects.
Symbolism and Transformation: Resins, such as amber and dragon’s blood, have been associated with mystical creatures and mythical properties. These associations with fantastical beings or mythical stories contribute to their perceived magical nature. Resins can symbolize transformation, protection, and the journey of the soul.
Rare and precious: Certain resins, like amber, are formed from the fossilization of ancient tree resin. Due to their rarity, resins have historically been considered valuable and traded as precious commodities. The rarity and beauty of resins have contributed to their perceived mystical qualities.
